headphones
The benefits of 900 MHz wireless headphones
Wireless headphones offer the ability to listen to your favorite
music without being tied down by leads and cables. Whether being used for listening to your stereo, the TV, radio
or games consoles they cause minimum disturbance and excellent sound quality. Wireless headphones fall into two
categories, Infrared and RF, or radio frequency. 900 MHz wireless headphones send a signal around
the house, whereas infrared uses a beam of light which means remaining in direct line of sight of the transmitter.
900 MHz wireless headphones therefore offer the greatest flexibility.
900 MHz wireless headphones consist of a
transmitter and a receiver. The transmitter converts stereo to a single signal, and the receiver in the headphones
converts this back to stereo. Whilst cordless telephones operate at a much higher frequency of 2.4 GHz and offer a
much more reliable signal, 900 MHz wireless headphones perform admirably.
Loss of the reception is possible, and whilst the signal can
penetrate walls, other wireless devices can cause static. The provision of a range of channels helps to keep this
to a minimum; if one channel is affected by interference, it is easily switched to a different frequency. The
signal from 900 MHz wireless headphones is not strong enough to pass through metal, and in a
crowded room the sound quality may deteriorate if the transmitter is not placed in a high position.
900 MHz wireless headphones cost between $60 and
$300 for a standard, set. Full surround sound models be significantly more, especially if they possess a Dolby 5.1
sound system. For general use however, the sound quality from a standard set will be sufficient for everything but
a full cinema sound experience. The Koss JR900 RF are an excellent top of the range model. They include 5 channels,
a range of 250 ft, and are good for home, attic, basement and garden alike. Excellent crisp sound and a thumping
bass make these one of the best buys at $290. JVC HA-W600RF 900 MHz wireless headphones are a good
lightweight budget option, with a perfectly acceptable sound. These can be bought for only $60 online and with good
retailers.
If you are planning to use the headphones for TV only, then
infrared wireless technology is the better option. It provides stronger signal strength with less chance of
interference, provided you remain in the same room. For housework, exercise and general use 900 MHz
wireless headphones are a much more practical solution.
